Traumatic few days...

Holy cow.

Last Tuesday my boyfriends mum had to have her beloved dog 'Candy' put down. It has been her constant companion since she lost her husband (boyfriends dad) suddenly in 1999 to a heart attack/stroke. Totally out of the blue.

Thursday i'm chatting to the boyfriend on his way to work, as i do every morning. We finish up the conversation and he said i'll call you later. About 5 minutes later (which is very unusual) he calls back, i'm thinking he forgot to tell me something, so i answer the phone all chipper...and he says..."Fucking hell, mum's had a heart attack, i'm running home....got to go....". That's all he said. I'm sent into an immediate panic, totally freaking out. He had to drive to his brothers, who wasn't at his house when he got there, so he drove to his mums and the ambulance was still 'working' on her. As he pulled up it just started to pull out, blue lights flashing, the lot. Ironic thing is, she lives 2 minutes away from the NEWLY built hospital, but she HAD to go to the cardiac specialists which is about another 30 minutes away. Anyway...the boyfriend is following the ambulance and about a mile down the road it pulls up, which he found out was because her heart rate dropped to below 15bpm, they thought they were losing her.

THANK GOD they stabilised her and she made it to Basildon where they took her straight down the theatre and put in 3 stents. She had 2 partial blocked arteries and 1 100% blocked. It was 'touch and go' for the entire journey, but she is okay. We went to see her yesterday and despite looking an odd colour, she was in really good spirits and she was being very (ha ha) funny. She's now on a gazillion types of medication to be reviewed in a year.

Thing is this. My boyfriends mum is slim, doesn't drink, 'social' smoker.....and is healthy AND very fit, there is NO reason for her to have a heart attack at all. Nothing in her lifestyle would point to being a contributing factor. She doesn't have high blood pressure nor cholesterol, but yet...she did.

Scary shit.

The reason we all think is she was literally broken hearted about her sweet little dog being put down. The stress was all too much for her. Too much to cope with.

My boyfriend being the oldest took charge of the situation, he's a good man (when he has to be). I am very proud of him... It was really hard for all the boys, it was like what they experienced when they lost their father all over again.

She's going to be just fine though. Stents in, medication being taken, problem solved.

Your boyfriend must have been so scared and brave and the same goes for you too sweetie. Poor lady. I really feel for her. Glad she pulled through and is getting better. What a terrible time!

Thanks Steph.

That wee dog was her life, it was the reason she got out of bed after her husband passed away... Very strange going round there and she wasn't lying on the floor.

My heart goes out to you too sweet lady, i can't imagine being in either yours or the boyfriends mothers' position right now. Totally heartbreaking. Sending lots of love to you.... xxx

Flipper...

I have made a passing comment that because it's her 60th birthday this year perhaps when she is ready maybe all her boys chip in and get her a dog. It's obviously not been mentioned because it's still way too soon, but i think the boyfriend might talk to his brothers at some point about it.

A little rescue dog would be lovely....

Charlotte...

The let her out already!!! Saturday evening.. I was stunned, but all her vitals were good and stable, so they chucked her out! She said its scary being alone, but that's because her confidence has been knocked, i'm sure she's be okay. She has ALL her family living right by her so thats a bonus.
